
On March 30, 2026, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mahri Bashimova, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Turkmenistan (with residence in Baku), Julien de Fraipont. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation. Special attention was paid to the development of political-diplomatic dialogue, cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs, and the improvement of the legal framework of Turkmen-Belgian relations.
The parties noted the importance of further strengthening Turkmenistan's cooperation with European states. In this regard, the significant role of Belgium in developing Turkmenistan's cooperation with the European Union was emphasized.
Cooperation within international platforms, primarily the UN, was also discussed.
Particular importance was attached to the trade and economic sphere. The parties exchanged views on organizing joint events involving business communities and intensifying business contacts.
Furthermore, the prospects for cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian fields, including the development of relations between higher education institutions, were discussed.
