The 111th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Ashgabat under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan. The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of the main delegations of the CIS member states, as well as CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.

The meeting was opened and chaired by Hojamyrat Geldimyradow, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the CIS Economic Council. During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on important areas of economic cooperation.

In his address, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the conditions created for holding the event at a high level and for the hospitality extended to the participants. He also congratulated the Turkmen people on the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence and highlighted the importance of the upcoming meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, a number of important issues related to various areas of economic cooperation were discussed. The participants approved an Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for Ensuring Transport Security for 2026–2030. Reports on the activities of the Interstate Council for Standardization and the Intergovernmental Council on Agricultural Issues were also considered.

Particular attention at the meeting was paid to innovation and technological development. The participants presented a draft Concept for cooperation in the production of advanced materials for high-tech industries, as well as initiatives to develop the digital transformation of the forest industry and improve the radio navigation system by 2030.

In addition, several specialized institutions of the CIS were granted the status of basic organizations in the areas of transfusiology, medical education, rehabilitation and digital development.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to submit 12 documents considered during the meeting for approval by the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS.

The next meeting of the CIS Economic Council is scheduled to be held in Moscow on November 27, 2026.
