
On May 30, 2026, a bicycle ride was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania in the city of Bucharest on the occasion of World Bicycle Day. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The event was organized with the support of the Bucharest City Hall and the "Green Revolution" association. The bicycle ride was attended by heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Romania, representatives of foreign embassies, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Turkmen citizens, and students.
At the opening of the event, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Romania, Annamammet Annaev, delivered a welcoming speech. In his speech, he noted the important role of sports diplomacy in promoting the positive neutrality policy of Turkmenistan, strengthening international cooperation, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. He also emphasized that these aspects serve as one of the main directions of the foreign policy pursued under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
During the event, special emphasis was placed on the importance of World Bicycle Day, established in accordance with the Resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 on the initiative of Turkmenistan. The significance of the UN General Assembly Resolution "Integration of mass cycling into public transport systems for sustainable development," adopted on March 15, 2022, also at the initiative of Turkmenistan, was highlighted as well.
The participants of the bicycle ride expressed their gratitude to Turkmenistan for consistently putting forward environmental, humanitarian, and sports initiatives aimed at strengthening international dialogue, developing intercultural relations, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
