The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is considering a regional project for "Developing New Generation Border Crossing Points" for the member countries of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program. This project involves the participation of countries such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, Trend agency reports, citing the bank's data.
The project is planned to be financed through the Special Technical Assistance Fund in the amount of 1 million US dollars.
The project aims to support CAREC countries in developing new generation border crossings based on the implementation of innovative solutions and ensuring resilience to climate change impacts.
As part of the project, preparatory work will be carried out for several priority border crossing points. These include feasibility studies, comprehensive expertise, and the development of new approaches for project preparation and implementation. The project also envisages measures to strengthen the capacity of CAREC countries to develop and manage border crossings.
The implementation of the project will allow for the improvement of infrastructure and operations at border crossing points, thereby reducing the time and costs of trade along the CAREC transport network. The modernization of border crossings will be the main result of the initiative, facilitating international freight transport and helping to strengthen regional cooperation.
