
The Ashgabat-born former famous goalkeeper of the Turkmenistan national team and experienced specialist Vitaliy Kafanov has joined the coaching staff of the CSKA Moscow football club. This was announced by the "Army Men's" media director Kirill Breydo in a statement to the RIA Novosti agency.
Earlier on Monday, CSKA football club officially announced the appointment of 39-year-old Dmitriy Igdisamov to the post of head coach of the team. A two-year contract with an option to extend for another two years was signed with the young specialist. Igdisamov had previously served as interim head coach following the dismissal of Fabio Celestini.
According to the official representative of the club, Dmitriy Kramarenko and Igor Aksyonov will continue their duties as before in the new coaching staff. Additionally, fitness specialist Petru Lăzărescu, Denis Korostichenko, who worked as Igdisamov's assistant in the youth team, Roman Adamov, Murat Iskakov, who previously worked in Vladimir Fedotov's staff, and the experienced goalkeeping coach Vitaliy Kafanov have joined the coaching setup.
Vitaliy Kafanov, who currently also serves as the goalkeeping coach for the Russian national team, worked as a close assistant to Valeriy Karpin at Rostov between 2019 and 2025. He previously achieved great success with Kristall Smolensk and Rubin Kazan. Along with Rubin, Kafanov managed to become the champion of Russia twice and also gained coaching experience with the Kazakhstan national team.
As a professional footballer, Vitaliy Kafanov played confidently for many years in the lineup of the celebrated Ashgabat team Kolkhozchi. Furthermore, during his career, he protected the goal for Sokol Saratov, Uralmash Sverdlovsk, and Kairat Kazakhstan. On the international stage, he is one of the few players who appeared on the pitch for both the national teams of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
