Ashgabat showcased at international tourism summit in Beijing
A delegation from Turkmenistan participated in the "Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit 2026" held in Beijing. Organized by the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), this prestigious forum brought together tourism industry professionals and government representatives from around the globe.
During the summit, trends in global tourism development were discussed, with a particular focus on the significance of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing service quality. Participants were introduced to cutting-edge innovative solutions aimed at improving tourism services, including robotic tour guides and smart translation systems.
A. Agamyradov, Head of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, noted in his speech that Ashgabat was included in the World Tourism Cities list in 2020. Emphasizing that the capital, often called the "Pearl of Asia," has become a hub for international forums and cultural-sports events, he stated that the city fully complies with global standards for hotel and tourism services.
A. Agamyradov also reported on efforts to enhance the international profile of other regions of the country. Specifically:
- Relevant work is underway to facilitate the membership of the cities of Kunya-Urgench, Mary, Turkmenabat, and the "Avaza" National Tourism Zone in the World Tourism Cities Federation.
The participation of the Turkmen delegation in this summit has opened new opportunities for promoting the country's rich historical and cultural heritage, strengthening international cooperation, and integrating advanced tourism industry practices into the national economy.
