Speeches were delivered by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan M. Bashimova and, via live video link, FAO Deputy Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, Viorel Gutu.
During the briefing, detailed information was provided on the current state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and FAO, future opportunities, key achievements, and priority areas for further collaboration.
Special emphasis was placed on the significance of the official visit of FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu to Ashgabat in January 2026, which was highlighted as clear evidence of the strategic nature of the partnership.
The importance of signing the Host Country Agreement was also underscored, as this document established the legal basis for opening the FAO Representation in Turkmenistan and elevated cooperation to a new qualitative level.
It was noted that the Country Programming Framework for 2021–2025 had been successfully implemented. Within its framework, a number of projects were carried out aimed at digitalizing agriculture, enhancing the sustainability of food systems, ensuring rational use of land and water resources, introducing environmentally friendly technologies, and supporting farming households.
Currently, work is underway to develop a new Country Programming Framework for 2026–2030.
The briefing concluded with a question-and-answer session.
