The heads of major seaports of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia discussed further coordination of the Middle Corridor at a meeting held in Baku.

Representatives of the ports of Turkmenbashi, Baku, Aktau, Kuryk, Poti and Batumi took part in the meeting. During the talks, the participants discussed the creation of a unified transit transport space connecting the Caspian and Black Sea basins, as well as the development of interregional logistics cooperation.

The increase in cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor was identified as one of the main areas of cooperation between the ports. According to data from the Port of Baku, during the first eight months of 2026, maritime cargo turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan increased by 34.6 percent compared with the same period last year. The volume of maritime transportation with Kazakhstan’s ports increased by 6 percent.

During the two-day forum held on September 9–10, particular attention was paid to reducing logistical barriers, digitalizing border-crossing procedures, and accelerating the handling of Ro-Ro vessels and various types of cargo.

Participants of the meeting visited the unified cargo management center of the Port of Baku. A presentation was also given on modern technologies aimed at environmental protection within the framework of the “Green Port” concept.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, AZCON Holding, Azerbaijan Railways Closed Joint Stock Company and the Port of Baku, with the support of the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.

Closer coordination between the ports of the Caspian and Black seas will create conditions for increasing the efficiency of multimodal transport routes between Asia and Europe and expanding the transit capabilities of the Middle Corridor.
