Energy Diplomacy: Foundation Stone Laid for the Fourth Phase of "Galkynysh" Field Development
A historical event is expected in the energy strategy of Turkmenistan. From April 15 to 17, 2026, Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Ding Xuexiang, will pay an official visit to our country and participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the fourth phase of the "Galkynysh" gas field development.
According to a report released by the Xinhua News Agency on Monday, Ding Xuexiang will come to Turkmenistan as a special representative of President Xi Jinping. This proves the international significance of the ongoing project and the strategic partnership between the two nations.
As part of the visit, the 7th meeting of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee will be held in Ashgabat on April 16. The Chinese delegation, led by Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, will discuss various economic issues with the Turkmen side, including trade, investment, and technological exchange.
The fourth phase of the "Galkynysh" field development is considered the core of Turkmenistan’s export strategy for supplying natural gas to the world market, especially to China. Within the project framework:
- Facilities capable of producing 10 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per year will be constructed;
- New wells will be drilled and commissioned to provide the necessary gas volumes.
This massive project will not only increase Turkmenistan’s economic power but will also play a crucial role in ensuring energy security for the entire region.
