English: Turkmenistan’s Alcha (Cherry Plum) Exports Reach CIS Markets for the First Time
A new success has been recorded in Turkmenistan's agriculture: Alcha grown in the country is being exported to CIS countries for the first time.
Employees of a large horticultural complex located at the foothills of the Kopetdag mountains have overcome the challenges of maintaining alcha orchards and have succeeded in bringing production to an export level. Local farmers note that the hot climate positively affects the sweetness of the fruit and effectively utilize these natural advantages.
Advanced Technologies and Quality Preservation. To increase yields, modern technologies are being widely integrated into the agricultural sector. Automated drip irrigation systems have been installed in orchards located 140 kilometers from Ashgabat. The following measures are taken to maintain the freshness and quality of the fruits:
- After harvesting, the fruits are stored in specialized refrigerated chambers.
- The alcha is sorted by size and placed in containers designed for long-distance transport.
It is worth noting that recently, more than 300 tons of apples were shipped from Turkmenistan to Russia, Kazakhstan, and Georgia. The start of alcha exports demonstrates that environmentally friendly Turkmen products have great potential in foreign markets.
