For a human, healthy vision is an important part of daily life. Eye health is of great importance in reading, working, navigating the environment correctly, and fully perceiving the world. Therefore, it is important to prevent eye diseases and consult a doctor in a timely manner when the first symptoms appear. According to Leýli Joraýewa, a doctor at the 1st ophthalmology department of the Lebap Velayat Multidisciplinary Hospital, nearsightedness, i.e., myopia, is one of the common eye diseases. This disease is mostly common among preschool and school-age children. One of the main symptoms of myopia is the unclear visibility of objects located at a long distance. A person suffering from nearsightedness tends to squint their eyes to see distant objects better. The origin of the word "myopia" is also related to the Greek word meaning "to squint". During myopia, the light rays falling on the eye are focused not on the retina of the eye, but in front of it. As a result, the image of external objects is not formed clearly, and visual acuity decreases. As the doctor explains, in people with normal vision, the length of the eyeball is usually around 23–24 millimeters. In the case of myopia, however, the eyeball lengthens, and its size can reach 26–30 millimeters, and in some cases even higher. There are mild, moderate, and high degrees of nearsightedness. To determine the degree of the disease and prevent further deterioration of vision, it is especially important to undergo regular examinations by an ophthalmologist. In particular, it is necessary to be attentive to children's vision. If symptoms appear such as inability to distinguish distant inscriptions, looking too closely at a TV or other screens, or squinting eyes when reading books, it is necessary to consult a specialist. To protect eye health, it is useful to reduce excessive strain on vision, read books under proper lighting, and take breaks when using screen devices. Paying timely attention to any changes related to eye health helps preserve visual acuity for many years.
