In recent years, extensive reforms in the country’s customs system have expanded international transit opportunities. A clear proof of this is provided by the results of studies conducted by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The studies analyzed the time and costs involved in exporting and transiting goods through Central Asian countries. Farap Customs Point stood out as one of the fastest and most efficient points for customs procedures.
According to the study, between August and October 2025, the average time for customs procedures for vehicles carrying export and transit cargo at the Farap, Garabogaz, and Dashoguz customs points was 37 minutes. This is the shortest time among Central Asian countries. For comparison: Kazakhstan — 1 hour 30 minutes, Tajikistan — 1 hour 40 minutes, Kyrgyzstan — 1 hour 44 minutes, Uzbekistan — 1 hour 10 minutes.
Analysis of vehicle queues at the border also showed that waiting time at Farap customs does not exceed 35 minutes, while in other countries it may take several hours.
These results confirm the strengthening role of Farap Customs as a key transit hub between Asia and Europe. Its success is based on modernized customs infrastructure, extensive implementation of digital technologies, creation of “green corridors,” and coordinated, efficient customs control. Today, Farap Customs Point is not only a crucial part of the national economy but also a reliable and fast component of international transit.
