The number of legally guaranteed annual paid leave days and paid public holidays for employees varies significantly across the globe. According to data for 2025 covering 185 countries, this figure ranges from 9 to 53 days depending on the country.

The data is based on a study conducted by Resume.io. The study factored in the total number of employee annual paid leave days guaranteed by law alongside paid public holidays.

Iran tops the ranking, where workers have a total of 53 paid rest days. The high figure is largely driven by a large number of public holidays. In Yemen, this figure is 45 days, in Bahrain 44 days, in Kuwait 42 days, and in Oman 39 days.

In most European countries, the figure equals or exceeds the global average of 30 days. For instance, Iceland totals 40 days, while Sweden, Portugal, and Slovakia each account for 35 days. In Russia, this figure for 2025 stands at 42 days, consisting of a 28-day core paid leave and 14 public holidays.

In some of Asia's major economies, the figures are considerably lower. China provides a total of 16, India 18, and Japan 26 paid leave and holiday days for employees.

In Turkmenistan, this figure is 30 days, matching the global average. Thus, among 185 countries, Turkmenistan belongs to the group of nations with an average indicator of total legally mandated annual paid rest days for employees.

When comparing country figures, it is also worth noting that the total number of days is formed differently. In some countries, annual labor leave is high, while in others, a high number of public holidays boosts the overall figure.
