A proud event for Turkmen football took place at the historic 11th Congress of the Central Asian Football Association, which was held in an online format. Guvanchmuhammet Ovekov, the Chairman of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan, was registered as the sole candidate from the Central Asian region for this responsible position. With the unanimous support and voting of all congress participants, he was officially elected to the post of Vice-President of the association. This is another high international recognition of the great attention paid at the state level to the development of sports, particularly football, in our country.
The leadership structure of the organization and official representatives of the regional national football bodies participated in the online meeting in full attendance. Among the main participants of the event were the General Secretary of the organization, Ulugbek Karimov, as well as the presidents and general secretaries of the national football federations, associations, and unions of Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
During the congress, not only were the elections held, but the results of the tournaments and events organized under the auspices of the organization last year were reviewed, and financial-audit inspection reports were presented and unanimously approved.
The Central Asian Football Association was founded on June 10, 2014, and fully commenced its practical activities on January 9, 2015. The organization is one of the five regional zones within the Asian Football Confederation and unites 6 member states, namely Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Uzbekistan.
The headquarters of the organization is located in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
