Italian archaeologist Carlo Lippolis, Director of the Center for Archaeological Research in Turin, Professor at the University of Turin, and recipient of the International Magtymguly Prize, is continuing his archaeological research in Turkmenistan. Known as one of the world's leading authorities on Parthian history and culture, Professor Lippolis has led excavations at the ancient fortress of Nisa—the ancient capital of Parthian kings near Ashgabat—since 1993.

During the spring season, alongside archaeologist Virginia Pelissero and topographer Mirko Furlanetto, the team made significant discoveries in the northern sector of the fortress. They identified a massive architectural complex likely built for defensive purposes, as well as a rich collection of ceramic artifacts demonstrating a highly developed pottery industry in ancient Nisa.
