From January to November 2025, a total of 19,000 containers were transported through Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Railways reported.
Among them, 9,250 were transit containers, 5,650 export, and 4,100 import. Compared to the same period last year, 9,405 more containers were transported, indicating significant growth.
Turkmenistan’s logistics capabilities are widely used for container transportation to increase import and export shipments via international transport corridors “North–South,” “Lapis–Lazuli,” and “East–West.” Multimodal corridors are also being developed along Russia–Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran, Turkmenistan–Azerbaijan–Georgia–Turkey–Europe, and Uzbekistan routes. Since the beginning of the year, 63 container trains have been completed along these routes.
Expanding the country’s trade relations helps improve railway efficiency and increase the volume of transit, import, and export shipments.
The North–South international transport corridor is multimodal with a total length of over 7,200 km. This alternative route is an important international transport connection linking Europe with the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean regions via the Suez Canal.
