Renowned specialist Kurban Berdyev spoke out for the first time about the failed negotiations when he was about to be appointed as the head coach of "Spartak". During the period when Berdyev was coaching "Rostov", the parties came very close to cooperation. However, at the very last moment, the contract fell through.
Berdyev admitted the reason why he said "no" to "Spartak", despite having a verbal agreement with Leonid Fedun. According to the coach, he received another, more lucrative offer from somewhere else, but in the end, nothing came out of that offer either. Berdyev notes that he still regrets his decision to reject Spartak's offer to this day.
"The main reason here is myself. Everything from Spartak's side was at the highest level. I met with Fedun twice. We discussed everything. I was even supposed to take over the team in Kazan, I had to fly there, there was a game against 'Rubin'. And I was in 'Rostov'. We agreed on everything. Then, an offer appeared from somewhere, let's not name the club. That's when I changed my mind and refused. I regret it so much," Berdyev noted.
"There was a very professional and concrete conversation with Fedun. I feel so ashamed in front of him. Sometimes, because of this decision, I just want to apologize to him. It is clear that it was unpleasant for him too. Because, like grown-ups, a preliminary agreement had already been reached. But well, this is what happened... This is my internal grief. But still, I continue to root for 'Spartak'," Berdyev said in his interview on the "Cappuccino & Catenaccio" channel.
Currently, Kurban Berdyev coaches the Azerbaijani club "Turan-Tovuz". He led this team to 3rd place in the championship, and it will compete in European cups next season.
