Germany national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has stepped down following the team's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision was officially announced by the German Football Association (DFB).

The 38-year-old coach requested to leave his position after Germany's World Cup campaign came to an end.
"In the days after returning from the tournament, I spent a great deal of time reflecting. I discussed the situation with people close to me as well as with the federation's leadership. This was not an easy decision. The team's success has always been my top priority. After such a painful disappointment, the squad deserves the opportunity to begin a new chapter. I would like to thank my coaching staff, support team, everyone at the federation, and especially the players I had the privilege to work with. I also want to thank our fans. You stood by us, believed in us, and gave us strength even during the toughest moments. I sincerely regret that we disappointed you and were unable to give you unforgettable football nights at this World Cup. You deserved more," Nagelsmann said.
Nagelsmann had been in charge of Germany since September 2023. At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Germany finished first in Group E despite a 2–1 defeat to Ecuador, but was eliminated in the Round of 32 after a 1–1 draw against Paraguay and a 4–3 loss in the penalty shootout.
The DFB also confirmed that it has begun talks with former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, who has reportedly expressed his willingness to take charge of the German national team.
