The holding company “Ojar Asia” has launched an initiative to implement a major investment infrastructure project — the construction of the Sarahs–Mary–Serhetabat (SMS) high-speed highway, aimed at further developing Turkmenistan’s transit and logistics potential.
According to the project, the planned high-speed highway will have a total length of approximately 450 kilometers, passing through Ahal and Mary provinces. In addition, about 35 kilometers of connecting entry and exit roads are planned.
The highway will link international transport corridors “North–South,” “Lapis Lazuli,” and “East–West,” creating a unified multimodal transport route for international cargo and passenger transportation through Turkmenistan.
The project aims to ensure stable and efficient transport connections between Central Asia, the Middle East, South Asia, and European markets. It will be harmoniously integrated with the country’s railway network, seaports, and border infrastructure, becoming part of a unified transport and logistics system.
The project is proposed for implementation on an investment basis without using state budget funds. The highway will operate on a commercial basis: fees for using the road and additional services will be charged to private companies, logistics operators, and cargo carriers.
Implementation of the project will positively impact the socio-economic development of the region, promote the growth of logistics centers, service and transport infrastructure, the development of small and medium businesses, and create new jobs. Additional economic benefits are expected from increased transit cargo flows, business activity, and expanded international trade. The project aims to further strengthen Turkmenistan’s transit capabilities.
