An abnormal heatwave was recorded in a number of European countries this summer. According to preliminary data, more than 32,000 people died in Europe as a result of the hot weather that lasted from mid-July to mid-August.

This was reported by the "SIA" agency, citing data from the "Kronen Zeitung" publication.

The estimates cover Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. The highest number of heat-related deaths was recorded in Germany.

According to experts, the current figure is not yet final. It is expected that upon re-analyzing the relevant data, the figures regarding the impact of hot weather on human mortality may change.

Specialists note that excessively high temperatures pose a major risk, primarily to elderly people and citizens with weaker health. During such periods, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and maintaining the body's water balance are listed among important precautionary measures.
