
Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan participated in a high-level international forum held in Dushanbe, the capital city of the Republic of Tajikistan. Organized within the framework of the "Green Central Asia II" program by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the forum was titled "Women Parliamentarians of Central Asia — Leadership in Advancing the 'Water for Sustainable Development' Agenda."
The primary objective of the three-day (May 24–26) international event was to further strengthen the role of women parliamentarians in achieving sustainable development in the Central Asian region, effectively combating global climate change, and promoting regional water diplomacy. The forum turned into an important platform for representatives of the regional countries to exchange experiences, discuss the best legislative and institutional methods, and facilitate the modernization of national legislation to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the forum, the representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan delivered speeches, highlighting the importance of increasing women's activity in implementing environmental and water policies. In their statements, the Turkmen delegates drew specific attention to the following key areas:
Following the results of the international forum, the participants agreed to elevate joint interparliamentary relations in managing water resources and protecting environmental sustainability in the region to a completely new stage.
