As part of the 111th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), being held in Ashgabat, heads of delegations exchanged views on important areas of economic cooperation.
In his opening remarks at the working session of the meeting, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev expressed his gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the conditions created to ensure the event was held at a high level and for the hospitality extended.
Sergey Lebedev congratulated the people of Turkmenistan on the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the country’s independence. Turkmenistan’s Independence Day is celebrated on September 27.
The head of the CIS Executive Committee also highlighted the significance of the meeting of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, scheduled to take place on September 23, 2026. According to him, this important event is of particular significance for strengthening national unity and ensuring the country’s sustainable development.
The CIS Secretary General noted the high level at which Turkmenistan has been carrying out its chairmanship of the Commonwealth this year. He emphasized that all events held throughout the year have been distinguished by a high level of organization.
Sergey Lebedev expressed confidence that the current meeting in Ashgabat would also be held successfully. He also noted that the summits of the heads of state of the CIS countries, planned to take place in the autumn months at Turkmenistan’s National Tourist Zone “Avaza”, would likewise meet the high standards of interstate negotiations.
