During the period of the “Great Revival” of the new era of the independent state, the development of the oil and gas industry, a key pillar of the national economy, remains one of the priority directions of state policy. Extensive work is being carried out to efficiently develop hydrocarbon resources, utilize underground wealth rationally, and supply them to foreign consumers in a diversified manner. Every such achievement is clear evidence of the country’s growing economic strength.
One of these accomplishments was the successful drilling of the Atabaý-1 appraisal well at the Atabaý field in Ahal Region by the employees of the Lebapnebitgazgözleg expedition of the Türkmengeologiýa State Corporation. The well was drilled to a depth of approximately 1,200 meters, yielding high results. Geological studies of nine layers from the Lower and Upper Cretaceous periods revealed that eight of them are gas-bearing.
Of particular note is the extraction of industrially significant, sulfur-free natural gas with a capacity of 284,000 cubic meters per day at a depth of 1,134–1,136 meters, obtained during round-the-clock testing. This success clearly demonstrates the consistent achievements of state policy in the development of the oil, gas, and geological sector.
To modernize the sector, modern technologies and equipment from leading global manufacturers are being implemented, significantly improving the efficiency of gas field development. Currently, gas from Atabaý-1 is planned to be put into production and delivered to consumers as environmentally clean “blue fuel,” which will strengthen the country’s energy security and expand export potential.
Achieving this milestone in the early months of the year, declared the “Year of Independent, Ever Neutral Turkmenistan — the Land of Bountiful Pastures,” has become an additional motivation for oil and gas specialists, who regard diligent work for the country’s benefit as their sacred duty.
