The US, Mexico, and Canada introduced coordinated measures against the spread of Ebola ahead of the World Cup

The US, Mexico, and Canada have announced coordinated public health measures for individuals arriving from African regions with the highest risk of Ebola infection. As noted in the joint statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, these coordinated measures are aimed at protecting the citizens of the country, as well as millions of fans, athletes, and tourists who will come to the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

These three North American states specifically emphasized that the introduced measures will not create obstacles to cross-border travel and trade relations.

Introduced measures and restrictions by country:

• Canada: Banned residents of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan from entering the country for a period of 90 days. This measure came into force on Wednesday, and a 21-day quarantine period was established for citizens arriving from these countries.
• Mexico: The country's largest airline, "Aeromexico", announced that citizens who have traveled to Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan within the last 21 days are banned from entering Mexico by air.
• Other Mexican air carriers: The country's low-cost airlines, such as "Viva Aerobus" and "Volaris", also introduced similar restrictions for a period of 60 days.

As a reminder, the FIFA World Cup, jointly organized by the US, Mexico, and Canada, will kick off on June 11 of this year.
