Chinese company ByteDance, the owner of TikTok and Douyin, plans to allocate around 100 billion yuan (approximately $14.29 billion) in 2026 for the purchase of artificial intelligence processors from U.S.-based Nvidia, according to the South China Morning Post.
The implementation of these plans depends on whether U.S. authorities approve the sale of Nvidia H200 graphics processors to the Chinese market. If approval is granted, ByteDance will significantly increase its investments in AI infrastructure.
For comparison, in 2025 the company spent 85 billion yuan on the acquisition of Nvidia graphics processors, making the planned spending for 2026 considerably higher.
Nvidia processors play a key role in the development of ByteDance’s artificial intelligence technologies. They are used to train and improve the company’s proprietary neural networks, including Doubao, one of the most popular chatbots in China.
In addition, Nvidia’s computing power supports the recommendation algorithms of TikTok and Douyin, enabling real-time analysis of the preferences of billions of users and the creation of personalized content feeds.
Thus, investments in AI chips are viewed by ByteDance as a strategic step toward the further development of its global digital platforms and strengthening its position in the artificial intelligence sector.
