US President Donald Trump announced that the 2026 FIFA World Cup made a massive contribution to the United States economy. According to him, the tournament generated over $18 billion in revenue for the country's economy and enabled the creation or support of more than 160,000 jobs.

Trump shared this information in a post on his Truth Social network. The president noted that the World Cup had a positive impact on tourism, services, and business activity.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup took place from June 11 to July 19 in the US, Mexico, and Canada. This was the first time the tournament was organized with 48 national teams participating.

Prior US projections highlighted expectations of a significant economic impact from the World Cup. Data from the White House FIFA 2026 working group estimated that the event could generate a total GDP of $17.2 billion in the US and support over 185,000 jobs.

Furthermore, FIFA leadership previously suggested looking into the possibility of further expanding the number of participating national teams in the future.

Hosting the 2026 championship across three countries demonstrated that major international sporting events significantly impact not only football development, but also tourism, commerce, the service sector, and the labor market.
