Japan and Central Asian countries are expanding cooperation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The recently organized visit program marked a significant step in implementing a new direction of bilateral cooperation, according to the "nCa" portal.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan hosted official representatives responsible for AI policy from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The expert meeting, held within the framework of the "Central Asia + Japan" dialogue, took place from February 23 to 27, 2026.
This program is a direct continuation of the "AI Cooperation between Japan and Central Asia" initiative announced at the first "Central Asia + Japan" Dialogue (CA+JAD) summit held in Tokyo in December 2025.
During the week-long visit, delegates from Central Asia held extensive discussions and visited key centers of Japan's technological infrastructure. They met with representatives from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry. The parties exchanged views on national strategies and regional approaches to AI development.
The visit included trips to world-leading research centers where participants learned about cutting-edge developments in quantum technologies, data management principles, talent development strategies, and international security standards. In turn, Central Asian representatives shared information about the current state of AI development in their respective countries.
A key highlight of the event was a forum organized by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Japanese AI startups presented their projects. The possibilities of applying Japanese technological solutions in the Central Asian region were also discussed.
