
The Turkmenistan national tennis team is participating in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV pre-qualifying tournament, which kicks off today in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. A total of 7 national teams are participating in the tournament, divided into two groups.
According to the draw results, the Turkmenistan national team will compete in Group "B" against the teams of Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, and Kuwait. Group "A" includes the teams of Qatar, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Sri Lanka.
According to the tournament regulations, the teams taking first and second places in each group will advance to the playoff stage to compete for two promotion spots to the Asia/Oceania Zone Group III for next year. The teams finishing third in their groups will play each other to retain their spot in Group IV. The loser of this match, along with the team finishing fourth in Group "B", will be relegated to the Asia/Oceania Zone Group V.
Turkmen tennis players will play their opening match of the tournament against the national team of Kuwait. The roster of our country's team features Yuri Rogusskiy, Selim Chagylow, Aly Geldiyev, and Resul Atayev. The team captain is Meylis Orazmuhammedow, the head coach is Miraly Gasanow, and the fitness coach is Samir Agabekow.
It is worth noting that the Turkmenistan tennis team has been representing our country in the Davis Cup competitions since 2004. Last year at the Asia/Oceania Zone Group V tournament held in Isa Town, Bahrain, Turkmen athletes performed successfully and earned the right to advance to Group IV.
