
The President of Turkmenistan has signed a relevant decree appointing the country's ambassador to the Republic of Maldives.
According to the “Watan” news program, Shalar Geldynazarov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of India, has concurrently been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Maldives.
The Republic of Maldives is an archipelagic state in the Indian Ocean, located southwest of India and Sri Lanka.
In recent years, Turkmenistan has continued to enrich and expand its efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations with countries around the world. As a result, political and diplomatic cooperation with various states is steadily developing.
Between January and May 2026, the newly appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chad, the Republic of Indonesia, the Italian Republic, the Republic of Korea, the Argentine Republic, and the Arab Republic of Egypt presented their credentials in Turkmenistan.
In addition, Turkmenistan’s ambassadors to the Kingdom of Thailand and the United States of America, as well as the country’s permanent representatives to the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, presented their credentials and officially assumed their duties.
The appointment of Turkmenistan’s ambassador to the Republic of Maldives is expected to create new opportunities for further strengthening friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
