Turkmenistan has been included among the countries eligible for technical support under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) project "Developing 'Next Generation' Border Crossing Points for CAREC Countries." The ADB announced this on Tuesday.
The project also involves Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The total technical assistance is valued at $1 million and will be funded through the ADB’s Technical Assistance Special Fund.
The technical support aims to help the bank and regional countries modernize border crossings using innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions. The CAREC program will serve as a platform for project preparation through the BUILD mechanism, which finances subprojects along transport corridors.
Key tasks of the technical assistance include preparing project documentation for three priority border crossings, creating a new methodology for project implementation via the BUILD mechanism, and training specialists in the operation and management of border facilities.
Additionally, Turkmenistan will participate in an ADB regional project focused on developing transboundary water cooperation and increasing the climate resilience of water resource management.
