
Within the framework of its preparations for the upcoming World Cup, the Uzbekistan national football team played a friendly match against the Canada national team. In the head-to-head encounter, the Uzbek footballers lost to their opponents with a score of 0-2.
The match, organized in the Canadian city of Edmonton, took place under the complete dominance of the hosts. Jonathan Osorio managed to score the opening goal for the winning side in the 58th minute of the game, while Jayden Nelson added the second at the very end of the match, specifically in the 90+1st minute.
Ahead of the kickoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Uzbekistan national team will play its next test match away from home on June 8 of this year against one of the formidable opponents, the Netherlands national team. Canada, meanwhile, will host the Republic of Ireland national team on June 6.
At the World Cup, which will be organized in the USA, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19 of this year, the Uzbekistan national team will compete in Group K. In the group stage, they will test their strength against Portugal, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Colombia to advance to the next round. The host nation Canada's team will face Switzerland, Qatar, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group B.
As a reminder, the Uzbekistan national team has qualified for the final stage of the World Cup for the first time in its football history.
