There is a well-known saying among our people: “A farmer takes pride in what he sows, while a gardener takes pride in what he plants.” Indeed, a generous harvest is the result of the dedication of people who devote their honest labour to the fertile soil and nurture gardens. Fruits such as apples, pomegranates, pears, plums, grapes and apricots adorn Turkmen tables and symbolise prosperity.

The family of Perhat aga, who is engaged in gardening at the Osman Sohbetov Farmers’ Association in Kerki etrap, Lebap velayat, is among those who continue this noble occupation passed down through generations. Guided by the principle that “a father’s craft is a worthy legacy for his son”, they cultivate orchards and offer the people fresh and delicious fruit.

In a conversation with gardener Perhat aga, he shared that his love for this profession began in childhood:

— I grew up in a family of gardeners. Both my father and mother were known as skilled gardeners. In my free time after school, I enjoyed going to the orchards to help my mother. There, I learned different techniques for obtaining a plentiful harvest. Those experiences further strengthened my interest in gardening. When you enter an orchard, your heart finds peace and your spirits lift. We continue to cultivate our gardens by following the methods and advice passed down to me by my parents. Demand for the fruit we grow is increasing not only among local residents but also in various parts of our country.

The work carried out by this gardening family demonstrates how an ancestral profession can be passed down through generations and how dedicated labour leads to an abundant harvest. The fruits they grow satisfy consumers with their natural taste, freshness and high quality.
