Yesterday, a meeting of the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan was held. The meeting summarized, approved, and announced the final results of the elections held on March 29 for members of the halk maslahaty of newly created districts (etraps), as well as for deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of regional (velayat), district, and city halk maslahaty, and Gengesh members to replace those who left their positions ahead of schedule. The meeting was attended by members of the Central Election Commission, representatives of relevant working groups, national observers, and media representatives.
As noted during the meeting, the elections were held based on the principles of broad competition, openness, and transparency. This once again confirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to the path of democratic development and the political course founded by the Hero-Arkadag and successfully implemented under the leadership of the Esteemed President. This strategy envisions large-scale reforms in all areas of state and social life. All stages of the pre-election campaign were organized in a timely manner, in accordance with the requirements of national electoral legislation and universally recognized international standards. High voter turnout during the campaign and on election day was a characteristic feature of this socio-political event.
During the meeting, reports from the chairmen of the election commissions of the regions and the city of Ashgabat on the election results were heard. In accordance with the Electoral Code and based on democratic standards, 759 candidates were registered by the relevant election commissions in 363 electoral districts. In all constituencies, two or more candidates competed for each seat. Focusing on the main item on the agenda — summarizing, approving, and announcing the final results — and based on the data from the protocols of the capital and regional election commissions, it was announced that: 140 out of 285 candidates were elected for the halk maslahaty of newly created districts; 5 out of 14 candidates were elected for the Mejlis; 3 out of 9 candidates were elected for the regional and Ashgabat city halk maslahaty; 12 out of 25 candidates were elected for the district and city halk maslahaty; and 203 out of 426 candidates were elected for the Gengeshes.
Participants of the meeting praised the work of national observers who monitored the elections and highlighted the high organizational level of the process. It was also emphasized that media representatives worked effectively to inform the population throughout the election season. Modern communication equipment at all polling stations ensured the timely transmission of data to the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan. In accordance with the Electoral Code, the election results will be brought to the public's attention through the media in a short period.
At the end of the meeting, participants confirmed that the elections were conducted in accordance with the current national electoral legislation and universally recognized norms of international law.
