As part of a special program for the conservation and restoration of the reservoir, Kazakhstan plans to channel another 1.2 billion cubic meters of water into the North Aral Sea by the end of this year. This was announced by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, during a working trip to the Kyzylorda region at a meeting with fishermen from the Aral district. According to the ministry, comprehensive measures to preserve the North Aral Sea are being consistently implemented. To this end, the second phase of a joint project with the World Bank has been developed. One of the main areas of the project is the complete renovation of the Kokaral Dam to increase the water level and total volume in the sea. Speaking at the meeting, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov also touched upon the government's main goals for the near future. In particular, it was noted that Kazakhstani engineers and specialists are carrying out large-scale work to increase the volume of water in the North Aral Sea to 34 billion cubic meters by 2030.
