Azerbaijan regards reliable natural gas supplies to international markets and the diversification of export routes as important conditions for strengthening energy security. To date, the country has exported 131 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Türkiye and more than 66 billion cubic metres to Europe.

According to Report.az, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov announced these figures on his X social media account following his address at the 8th summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held in Moscow.

The minister noted that natural gas is playing an increasingly important role in ensuring global energy security. He emphasised the need for stable supplies, long-term investment and international cooperation.

According to Shahbazov, Azerbaijan currently supplies natural gas to 16 countries. By expanding its export routes and developing reliable partnerships, the country contributes to international energy security.

Parviz Shahbazov also highlighted the strategic importance of the Southern Gas Corridor. He said this infrastructure makes it possible to establish new gas supply routes, diversify export markets and promote long-term cooperation.

The minister stated that Azerbaijan has been exporting natural gas for approximately 20 years and has significantly expanded supplies to the European market over the past six years. He also noted that the country had gained new opportunities to access markets in Central Europe and the Middle East.

According to Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan has so far supplied 131 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Türkiye, more than 66 billion cubic metres to Europe, over 37 billion cubic metres to Georgia and 1.7 billion cubic metres to Syria. In terms of the geographical reach of pipeline gas exports, the country ranks among the world’s leading exporters.

The energy minister also stressed that Azerbaijan pursues a balanced policy that takes both energy and environmental security into account. He explained that combining natural gas resources with the development of renewable energy sources helps strengthen the country’s domestic energy supply and free up additional resources for export.

At the end of his address, Shahbazov reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness to deepen cooperation within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum and expand mutually beneficial energy relations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also described Azerbaijan as a reliable partner. He said that active dialogue was taking place with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on developing cooperation across various fields, including energy.
