As part of a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, a meeting was held between Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, and Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.

During the meeting, Dunyagozel Gulmanova expressed her gratitude for the invitation to participate in the fourth Interparliamentary Forum of Central Asian States, as well as for the hospitality extended to the Turkmen delegation. She also wished the forum every success.

The sides noted that friendly relations between the two countries continue to develop steadily through the efforts of their heads of state. The talks addressed opportunities to expand cooperation in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields. The importance of cooperation between the two countries within prominent international organisations was also emphasised.

The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan noted that, within the framework of the country’s foreign policy based on the principles of peacefulness, humanism, equality and mutual trust, particular importance is attached to strengthening relations with Tajikistan. She expressed gratitude for Tajikistan’s support as a co-sponsor of several important resolutions adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

The meeting also addressed continued mutual support on international platforms, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The sides emphasised that parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the two peoples and in developing interstate cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dunyagozel Gulmanova invited Rustam Emomali and representatives of the Tajik parliament to participate in international events to be held in Ashgabat. These include the third Ashgabat Conference entitled “Promoting International Law in the Interests of Dialogue, Trust and Security within the OSCE”, a meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS within the framework of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the CIS, and the third meeting of parliamentary leaders of countries belonging to the Group of Friends of Neutrality.
