A major milestone has been reached in the construction of the first tunnel along the Kyrgyz section of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. According to the project implementation company, drilling work on the North Kosh-Dobo Tunnel No. 2 has been successfully completed.

Measuring 209.6 meters in length, this tunnel is the first project tunnel built on Kyrgyz territory. Its construction began in June 2025.

To date, construction has commenced on 27 tunnels, 43 bridges, and 88 railway subgrades within the framework of the project. Construction work is also underway across 20 railway stations.

The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is one of the major infrastructure projects implemented under the "Belt and Road" initiative. The railway will start from Kashgar in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, pass through Jalal-Abad in Kyrgyzstan, and extend to Andijan in Uzbekistan.

The total length of the project is expected to exceed 500 kilometers, with the section passing through Kyrgyzstan reaching 304.84 kilometers.

The new railway will establish additional transportation links between China and Central Asia while expanding trade and logistics opportunities in the region. The launch of this transport corridor will help reduce freight delivery times and lower logistics costs.

The railway is of primary importance for expanding landlocked Kyrgyzstan's access to international markets. For Uzbekistan, it opens up new trade routes, while for China, it provides conditions to diversify transport and logistics ties with Central Asia.

The completion of drilling operations on the first tunnel is regarded as a significant achievement in the construction phase of this long-term project. In the future, the railway is expected to contribute to growing trade turnover, investment cooperation, and regional economic relations among the three nations.
