Istanbul's Rami Library has won the "Large-Scale Project" category of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Green Library Awards 2026.

The award was granted for the project transforming 19th-century historic barracks into a climate-resilient, modern public space. The project integrates several key areas: preserving historical and cultural heritage, reducing environmental impact, and developing public services for the local community.

The Green Library Awards are presented by IFLA's Environment, Sustainability and Libraries Section (ENSULIB). These awards aim to recognize libraries and projects that stand out for their leadership in promoting environmental sustainability, innovative approaches, and community impact.

Rami Library distinguished itself among 62 projects from 27 countries at the award ceremony. The presentation took place as part of the WLIC Awards 2026 program during the 90th IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC 2026) held in Busan, Republic of Korea.

Experts highly praised Rami Library's multi-faceted sustainability initiatives. The project to convert the historic building into a modern public space was showcased as an exemplary approach combining cultural heritage preservation with ecological principles.
