A delegation of Turkmenistan led by Parahat Jumayev, Director of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, who is on a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, held a meeting with Eldar Salahov, Director of the Baku International Seaport LLC. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammed Elyasov. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the consistent strengthening of strategic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, with particular attention paid to developing logistics cooperation between the Turkmenbashi and Baku (Alat) international seaports. This cooperation aims to increase cargo transportation across the Caspian Sea amid growing bilateral trade, develop the Middle Corridor, and expand transport links between the two countries.
In recent years, the sides have been actively working to increase cargo volumes and simplify border and customs procedures. Reduced tariffs for maritime and rail services have contributed to the development of multimodal transport and the expansion of transit container shipments.
The development of the Turkmenbashi and Baku (Alat) ports is aimed at transforming them into key logistics hubs of the Caspian Sea serving international East–West corridors. The main route connecting the two ports ensures the transportation of oil, various goods, and railway wagons. Following modernization, the Turkmenbashi port has become a major transport hub, while the Baku port in Alat continues to expand its infrastructure, strengthening its role in cargo and passenger transport and occupying an important position along the modern Silk Road route.
In addition, the parties discussed issues related to the development of the Caspian Sea–Black Sea international transit and transport corridor, including opportunities to increase cargo transportation via the ports of Turkmenbashi, Baku, Poti, Batumi, and Constanta. The importance of enhancing cooperation with all interested partners, including the European Union, was highlighted.
Meeting participants emphasized the global nature and broad potential of these corridors and also discussed issues of establishing effective information exchange.
