The visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to the Republic of Austria became another proof that our country's relations with the United Nations and its specialized agencies have reached new heights. During the visit, the National Leader held productive meetings with heads of the UN and UNIDO on important issues of international sustainable development and regional security.
During the talks with Gerd Müller, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), special attention was paid to modern technologies and innovative projects. The National Leader noted that special importance is attached to technical cooperation in implementing the second stage of Arkadag City, the first "smart" city in the region.
Gerd Müller, in turn, emphasized that the successful integration of the industrial potential of the medical cluster into the healthcare system of Arkadag City is a world-class model. Furthermore, the initiative to develop a Roadmap for cooperation on the "green" industrial transition for 2026–2030 was defined as a key area for future partnership.
In a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima, the significance of Turkmenistan's international initiatives regarding energy and climate was discussed. Rabab Fatima specifically highlighted that these initiatives are inherently linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to global stability.
Moreover, during the visit, the National Leader drew the international community's attention to regional security issues. In particular, Turkmenistan's sincere and peace-loving views on the potential impact of the current Middle East situation on the Caspian region were expressed.
These meetings once again confirmed Turkmenistan's growing international prestige and its role as an important partner in ensuring global peace, innovative development, and environmental security.
