
Preparations are underway for the official visit of Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim to Turkmenistan. This was reported at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held via the digital system. As noted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, this visit will contribute to further development and elevating the relations between the two friendly countries to a qualitatively new level.
Malaysia is one of the first states to recognize the independence of Turkmenistan. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on May 17, 1992, and are currently developing successfully. The contractual-legal basis of interstate cooperation is consolidated by 43 documents.
High-level visits between the two countries play an important role in strengthening political relations. To date, a total of 9 official and state visits have taken place between the parties. Specifically:
The visits of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Malaysia in 2011 and 2016 provided a great impetus to the expansion of friendly relations and political dialogue between the two countries.
The official visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Malaysia in December 2024 brought Turkmen-Malaysian relations to a new, higher level. It was noted that the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will also make an effective contribution to the further deepening of cooperation.
