Yesterday, Honorable President Serdar Berdimuhamedov departed for a working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan to discuss vital issues of regional cooperation. Within the framework of this visit, the Head of State will participate in the Regional Environmental Summit and the next meeting of the Council of the Heads of State-founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).
The Head of State was seen off by officials at Ashgabat International Airport. After a flight of several hours, the President’s plane landed at the Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport in Astana. At the airport, decorated with the national flags of both countries, the distinguished guest was warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, and members of the Turkmenistan delegation.
Cooperation with neighboring countries in the ecological sphere is one of the priority directions of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. Our country pursues sustainable development in harmony with environmental protection. The following important initiatives lie at the core of the policy pursued by the Honorable President:
Improving the ecological situation in the Aral Sea region remains at the center of Turkmenistan’s attention. Our country aims to strengthen peace and stability in the region through water diplomacy. In this regard, consistent measures are being implemented within the framework of IFAS to develop a Water Strategy for Central Asia and to have the Aral issue recognized as a special area of UN activity.
"Turkmenistan's environmental initiatives are of great importance not only for the region but also for achieving global sustainable development goals."
Honorable President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s visit to Kazakhstan will be a significant step toward protecting the environment in the region, using water resources rationally, and elevating friendly relations to a new qualitative level.
The Head of State’s working visit continues.
