A ceremony presenting the renovated Turkmen Hall was held at the United Nations (UN) Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The event, organised as part of the UN’s strategic plan to preserve its historical heritage, coincided with an open day.

The ceremony was attended by Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, heads of several diplomatic missions, international experts, and representatives of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Located in a historic building constructed in the 1930s for the needs of the League of Nations, the Turkmen Hall plays an important role in presenting Turkmenistan’s national culture and art to the world. The first large-scale restoration of the hall was carried out in 2014 with the support of the Government of Turkmenistan. During the latest stage of the UN’s strategic plan for preserving its historical heritage, the hall underwent renovation using modern technologies.

Particular attention was paid to preserving the hall’s historical appearance and distinctive national features throughout the renovation process. The original appearance of the antique furniture and outstanding examples of Turkmen carpet-making art used in the interior decoration was retained.

During the open day, visitors had the opportunity to explore not only the Turkmen Hall but also the distinctive decorative features of the Council Chamber, the French Hall, the Russian Hall and the Czechoslovak Hall.

The renovated Turkmen Hall continues to serve as an important venue for high-level negotiations, international mediation efforts and the development of multilateral diplomatic relations.

The project reflects one of the important areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations. It also contributes to promoting Turkmenistan’s national cultural heritage internationally and fostering respect for the cultural values of different peoples.
