A high-level delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, currently on an official visit to the United States of America, attended the meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance entitled "Reforming and Improving Global Governance, Joint Efforts to Overcome Global Challenges" organized in New York City.

During the meeting, the head of the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan delivered a speech and expressed sincere gratitude to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi, for the invitation to this significant meeting. In the statement, it was reaffirmed that Turkmenistan fully supports the Global Governance Initiative put forward by the President of the PRC, Xi Jinping, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. As noted, Turkmenistan views this Group of Friends as a powerful and important platform to promote the planned initiatives more actively within the framework of the United Nations (UN).

Four historic initiatives put forward by the Turkmen side

With the aim of implementing the Global Governance Initiative in effective and practical ways, the Turkmen delegation put forward four core practical proposals that will attract the attention of the international community:

  • Establishing a multilateral preventive governance platform: This initiative is aimed at orienting global governance toward preventive tasks. The platform will turn into an effective mechanism for preventing global disputes and crisis situations at early stages.
  • Declaring the year 2028 as the "International Year of International Law": In order to fundamentally strengthen the international legal framework, Turkmenistan is actively promoting this initiative within the UN. This event will serve as a broad global platform to discuss the role and stability of law under the conditions of global reforms and threats.
  • Introducing mechanisms for reliable data and digitalization: In the current era, the importance of precise and correct information in making global governance decisions is extremely high. Accordingly, Turkmenistan supports the creation of general principles for data reliability and mechanisms for their joint verification.
  • Inclusivity and practical effectiveness: The real effectiveness of global governance is determined by its ability to resolve specific issues quickly and correctly on the basis of mutual trust and inclusivity. For this reason, the implementation of each initiative must rely on concrete and practical results.

At the end of the speech, the Turkmen representatives emphasized that preventive governance, international law, reliable information exchange, and the practical implementation of concrete initiatives form a unified system that creates a solid and unshakable foundation for responsible international cooperation.
