The Republic of Korea has become the first state in the world to create a comprehensive law on artificial intelligence. The "AI Basic Act" (Basic Law on Artificial Intelligence) has come into force in the country, as reported by "The Wall Street Journal."
The document consists of 6 sections and includes 43 articles. According to the law, companies are obliged to explain the operating logic of AI (Artificial Intelligence) systems upon request and create opportunities for human involvement in this process.
Furthermore, if a service operates based on artificial intelligence algorithms, companies must inform users about it (for example, through warnings appearing on the screen). This rule also applies to systems that evaluate the capabilities of borrowers and job candidates.
Special warnings must be placed on content created by artificial intelligence that is indistinguishable from real life. In addition, the law defines ways to support the development of artificial intelligence in the country.
