
A high-level meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, who is on an official visit to the United States of America, and the US Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau. During the talks organized in Washington D.C., the parties comprehensively discussed the current state of cooperation between the two countries and ways to raise it to new heights.
The main focus of the meeting was directed toward further actively developing bilateral relations in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, educational, and cultural-humanitarian fields.
The diplomats noted with satisfaction the historical significance of the "C5+1" summit organized in Washington last November, as well as the bilateral meetings held between the Presidents of Turkmenistan and the United States. It was particularly emphasized that these meetings and the reached agreements provided a powerful impetus to the relations between Ashgabat and Washington.
During the negotiations, great attention was paid to strengthening trade and economic cooperation and expanding relations with the American business world. In this regard, the significant role of the meaningful meetings conducted by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with representatives of major American companies during his visit to the US was highlighted in achieving these objectives.
As part of the concrete steps for future cooperation, the parties discussed the preparations for the visit of the US business delegation to Turkmenistan and the annual bilateral political consultations to be held in Ashgabat.
At the end of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their full readiness to continue a regular and active dialogue to further strengthen mutual cooperation that serves the best interests of both countries and their peoples.
