Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Wepa Hajiyev, delivered a speech at the high-level open debate of the UN Security Council titled "Ensuring International Peace and Security: Managing Natural Resources as a Foundation for Peace, Security, and Prosperity." During the meeting held on July 22, the Permanent Representative stated that Turkmenistan consistently advocates for the responsible, equitable, and mutually beneficial management of natural resources, viewing them as a crucial prerequisite for securing peace, sustainable development, and expanding international cooperation. Special emphasis in the address was placed on Turkmenistan's international initiatives aimed at strengthening preventive diplomacy mechanisms, promoting a philosophy of peace and trust, developing energy and transport connectivity, enhancing water security, and expanding environmental cooperation. It was noted that these strategic areas are reflected in 32 UN General Assembly Resolutions adopted on the initiative of Turkmenistan. Furthermore, the speech emphasized that the recent meeting of the Presidium of the Halk Maslahat of Turkmenistan once again reaffirmed the nation's unwavering commitment to a foreign policy focused on strengthening international peace, security, and sustainable development. In conclusion, regarding Turkmenistan's candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the 2031–2032 term, the country reaffirmed its readiness to make further active and effective contributions to the work of the UN by promoting preventive diplomacy, strengthening trust, ensuring responsible resource management, and fostering mutually beneficial international partnerships.
