Turkmenistan's active participation in the "Accelerated Partnership for Renewable Energy in Central Asia" ("APRECA") investment forum, to be held in Baku this June, will enrich the dialogue on priority areas of the energy transition in the region and facilitate the formation of investment projects. This was reported by "Trend," citing Gurbuz Gonul, Director of Country Engagement and Partnerships at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
According to Gurbuz Gonul, the "APRECA" investment forum will take place in June 2026 in Azerbaijan as part of "Baku Energy Week." The forum will bring together government officials, investors, and project developers to discuss advancing renewable energy projects and modernizing transmission networks across the Central Asian region.
During a meeting between the new Ambassador of Turkmenistan, Bayram Bayramov, and IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera, issues of strengthening cooperation and defining specific areas for future partnership were discussed.
G. Gonul explained that while Turkmenistan's energy system currently relies on traditional sources, the country has vast renewable potential. "Turkmenistan enjoys approximately 300 sunny days a year and has one of the highest levels of solar radiation in Central Asia. Wind energy potential is also significant: calculations show that about 40 percent of the country's territory is suitable for wind power development," he noted.
