Uzbekistan plans to expand the capacity of the Tuyamuyun reservoir located on the border with Turkmenistan, according to the website upl.uz. The project is part of the national development strategy “Uzbekistan–2030”.
Situated on the Amu Darya River along the Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan border, the Tuyamuyun hydraulic complex is one of the largest hydrotechnical facilities in the region. It consists of 30 key hydraulic structures and four interconnected reservoirs — Ruslovoye, Sultansanjar, Kapara, and Goshbulak — linked by a system of canals and шлюices.
The hydrosystem primarily accumulates water during the winter and spring seasons, using the stored resources during the agricultural irrigation period. According to available information, the project envisions increasing the reservoir’s capacity by an additional 1 billion cubic meters.
The initiative aims to enhance water supply reliability, improve water resource management, and support the sustainable development of agriculture in the region.
