
Within the framework of the 60th plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) and the regular meeting of the Assembly's Council held in Saint Petersburg, a bilateral meeting was held between the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, D. Gulmanova, and the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized that as a result of the political efforts of the Heads of the two states, the relations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation bear the character of a strategic partnership. It was also noted that the Turkmen-Russian cooperation, based on long-standing rich experience, is consistently developed in political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian fields, and interparliamentary relations give a great impetus to this.
During the talks, attention was drawn to the importance of exchanging experience in the legislative sphere, activating the work of interparliamentary friendship groups, as well as mutually supporting each other's initiatives in international parliamentary platforms.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, D. Gulmanova, invited the Chairperson of the Federation Council, V. Matvienko, to participate in the international events planned to be held in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone within the framework of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the CIS and the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asian Countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The head of the upper house of the Russian parliament expressed gratitude for the invitation and confirmed their readiness to further deepen the productive relations that meet the mutual interests of the parties.
